MK 7.5 GTI

August 14, 2023

Mk7 Golf GTI. I have to admit I’ve not even sat in a gti since the mk4 so this was quite an eye opener. My first golf was a mk1 gti, small rear lights 1979 build. In right hand drive, the first year they were available with the steering wheel on that side. Square dash pod, 3 spoke steering wheel. Peppy little lightweight hatchback. Absolutely loved it until it locked up and dumped it’s oil on the M25. Yes of course with current prices circa £30k plus I should have repaired and kept it but somehow I ended up swapping it for a left hand drive Swedish mk2 gti which was running beautifully so at the time was obviously the better deal. Sadly I found out later that the mk1 had been picked up outside the new owner’s house for having no tax displayed by the council and scrapped. A crying shame #facepalm

So, a MK7.5 is quite different to say the least, just the technology built into the dash and display is something completely alien to me, check it out in the photos. Nice nod back to the Mk2 tartan cloth though, lovely car.
