Silverstone International Trophy

June 29, 2018

The Historic Sports Car Club has been the mainstay of my photographic progression over the last few years. There’s been a deviation on the theme in recent months with some variation in subject matter of a more modern ilk. Much needed variation. I wasn’t getting bored of the historic classes but just needed something different to expand my thoughts. Everybody talks about finding your photographic style and sticking with it for the sake of consistency. The consistency supposed to help with recognition of your work and building up a decent base on social media. If people like what they see and you give them more of it, chances are they’ll keep watching. Well I don’t want a style, I want to try new things, I’m not just going to punt out historic images with the same vintage feels. I’d like to think I’m more creative than that.  And the point of social media is…… well. I’m not 100% sure. But…. as my subjects have changed so has my approach. It’s a gradual change a lot of the time but looking back to events captured a couple of years ago it’s quite apparent. Whether it’s good or bad, I’ll let you be the judge. I’m happier with some more than others, thats life. I know I’m still enjoying what I’m doing and that’s worth more than thumbs up or little hearts.

So, to the point of social media. I’ll be the first to admit I got caught up in the competitive urge to gain more followers and likes and felt disgruntled when, in particular, Instagram, overnight made it much harder to progress in this almost arcade like game of popularity. To re-address this disgruntledness (sp?) I took a step back and assessed what I really gain from it. I’ve had some great discussions recently with some of my peers at different levels of the game and there’s been a common positive theme which has risen to the top. What I and many of my peers gain is a social interaction of great value whether it’s actually communication with words or just the simple influence of seeing each others work. It’s changed what I produce, it’s inspired me to try new techniques and it’s given me confidence to experiment. What’s the point of being creative if you don’t have some form of stream to float your most recent works out in to. It’s kept my interest and upped my enjoyment. To those of you responsible reading this whether you know it or not, keep on keeping on.

So ok, get on with it, where are the bloody photos….. Enjoy, some more creative than others but I really enjoyed putting them together either way. Oh… and if you’re on instagram, give me a follow and some likes FFS. I need that fix man…
