DJI Osmo
April 19, 2016
So I treated myself. After much research into gimbals for SLR’s, iPhones etc. The Osmo from DJi seemed the best option for portability, quality and budget so I took the plunge. I’ve been following it’s progression since its launch last year and after a few firmware issues it seemed it had reached a decent point of stability. It arrived on Saturday and I charged it up and headed to the woods. It’s essentially a 4k camera as found on the DJI Inspire drone but mounted to a hand held 3 axis gimbal, controlled by a phone app, using the phone as the monitor. Here’s the footage from my first use proving the out of the box credentials of this piece of technological mastery. I’ll not do a full review as there’s plenty on youtube, it has a couple of quirks and imperfections but so far I like it a lot. This footage was filmed using the D-Log colour setup and edited/graded in FCPX. I look forward to bringing you more this year, cars though as I’m sure there’s only so many dog walks you’ll happily sit through.
