Duxford -The Return

April 1, 2016

Last May we invested in an annual pass for Duxford as the American Air Museum Hangar was closed for refurbishment and we hoped to revisit before our year was up. It finally opened just before Easter so we returned to see what was new. Safe to say we weren’t disappointed! The new display is packed to the rafters in the amazing hangar which was designed by Foster and Partners and completed in 1997. You can find out about this amazing building here. The Hangar now houses more aircraft and vehicles than before, including the A10 Thunderbolt, B-52, F15, Stealth bomber and more. The new displays are beautifully presented with some amazing artefacts on display right up to present day items and some of the best digital and interactive elements I’ve seen in a museum. We also had a walk round the Land Warfare exhibition which we had missed on our last visit. This too had some cool displays and life like mannequins including the chap below calling you on to a D Day landing craft.  A bonus was being able to catch up with my old friend Andy Marriott who works in the conservation department restoring the aircraft for display, what a cool job!
